WHAT THE ALMA MATER... CAN DO...

GOLDEN JUBILEE REUNION.... 1956 - 1960

I would like to wish my friends a VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR 2010...

Thought I should share an event that happened in the last week of the previous year at FEAT, ANNAMALAI UNIVERSITY.

The Engineering graduates of 1960 had planned to get together for the celebration of their GOLDEN JUBILEE... As a token of gratitude they conducted a two day workshop titled "Quality Imperatives in Technical Education"...

The logo designed by them was great....

Its not a flower vase... Its the name of all the classmates ... raising up are the ones who will meet on January 28th and 29th 2010... The ones laid down are no more and laid to rest...

The Training GURUS of QUALITY

From Left to Right: Mr R. Krishnan, Mr K.C. Raghavan, Dr. T.R.Jagadeesan, Dr P.R.Nakkeeran, Prof Swaminatha Pillai, Mr A. Mayuranathan.

Few staff members and students attended this workshop. They had planned meticulously all the aspects of the workshop... to the surprise of the younger generation they were on dot in all aspects of the workshop. The first day started at 8.30 AM with an inauguration by The Dean, FEAT... Continued by the chairperson Dr. T R JAGADEESAN, a mechanical engg passout of 1960, introducing the theme and concerns for quality in technical education. Followed by Mr K C RAGHAVAN - A quality expert from the industry highlighted the tools in Quality circle, Dr P R NAKKEERAN - Director Tamil virtual University Speaking of TQM.. with a lot of stories and pictures in the deliberation.. Prof SWAMINATHA PILLAI had enormous information delivered on teaching pedagogy on the first day continued on the second day with quality in teaching. Mr R KRISHNAN spoke on the quality system in the schools. Finally Mr A MAYURANATHAN... gave some case studies on installation of quality circle in educational institutions.

At the end the teachers were divided into 3 groups and students clubbed into one group and each of these groups were asked to identify problems and make presentations on the quality circle

The group of students called themselves as Eurekha

This team called themselves as Annamalaians... leader Dr Subramanian
This team called themselves as Go Getters led by Mr C.S.Rathinasabapathy

And the third group was JURAN.. to which I belonged (So no Pic)

The event was quite a thought provoking one for the teachers of engineering colleges in the present scenario... where engineers are mass produced with lesser employability...
HOPE THESE QUALITY CIRCLES BECOME A REALITY.....
