The various guidelines for good IR, the causative factors for poor IR. Key parameters within the organization to improve the IR.

I. Objective of the Lecture:
To give a view of the historical details of the disputes in India.
II. Concepts/Key terms:
Mandays, Price stability, Truce Resolution.
III. Major Issues/Core Aspects Addressed:
Industrial disputes prior to world war I & II – Pre independence. Post independence scenario. The industrial truce resolution of 1947 and 1962. Emergency and after - disputes in India. Number of disputes the mandays lost and the numer of workers involved. Causes for the disputes.

Forms of dispute. Definition of key terms as per the act. Types of strike -legal and illegal strikes. Lockouts.

Grievances, Collective Bargaining, conciliation, arbitration, Tribunal, adjudication
III. Major Issues/Core Aspects Addressed:
Regulation of Strikes and Lockouts. Machinery for the prevention and settlement of industrial disputes. Consequences of illegal strikes or Lockout. Justified strike and lockout. Law related to layoff, retrenchment and closure.
