TRANSACTIONAL ANALYSIS

TRANSACTIONAL ANALYSIS (TA)

When I talk about Interpersonal skills i would like to touch upon the "The Games People Play", yes it is the TA. If you are good at understanding your self (Your ego states) as well as the other persons ego your communication will be much comfortable.
TA tells us that our personality is made up of 3 basic parts called EGO-STATES

The 3 ego-states are: Parent - Adult - Child.
In our day to day transactions we jump between these 3 egostates be it at home or work, if at all we have a control over these and try to be in a WIN WIN situation during our conversations I feel we will never face any situation of fighting with others.

These are different from real parents, real children and real grown-ups.
Ego states begin with a capital letter to show the difference between a Parent ego state and a parent raising a child, or adults running a business.
So wat is this EGO we get many definitions for this but what is it really??

An ego-State is defined as a coherent system of: thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Each ego-state has a characteristic set of traits :

• Ways of feeling and showing mad-sad-glad-scared.
• Styles of smiling, saying "hello" and "goodbye”.
• Ways of holding and moving their body.
• Ways of thinking clearly ( or not ! ).
• How to behave in private/public.
• How to use power - control.
• How to love-work-play

SOME JOBS OF THE PARENT EGO-STATE ARE:
To maintain values that have been thoughtfully evaluated and found to be worth keeping.
To test and acquire new values those reflects basic dignity and generate growth and change for the person.
To initiate,
To start,
To be first,
To care,
To risk for others,
TO DO GOOD THINGS WHEN OTHERS ARE DOING NOTHING

SOME JOBS OF THE ADULT EGO-STATE ARE:

To maintain a rational and thoughtful attitude by using enough information, maintaining a wide perspective, and thereby avoiding snap judgments, blame and guilt.
To get, to organize, and to use accurate information to protect the Child from illusion, prejudice, hate, violence, bigotry, intolerance, discrimination, and needless fear.
To help the Child grow, prosper, become wise, and share those things with others with vigor and robustness.
To guide the Child - attentively - with safety and security.

TO INFORM YOURSELF & OTHERS WITH ACCURATE DATA

SOME JOBS OF THE CHILD EGO-STATE ARE:

To enjoy the goods things that life offers.
To deal with the suffering that life presents with dignity and courage.
TO ALWAYS ENJOY THE REALITY WITH HOPE AND DIGNITY

This is just the introduction to the ego states - we shall see how these egos transact with each other a little bit later......
