These are not tips but realities of an interview.
The first aspect is - what kind of preparations should one do before an interview?
Should you burn the mid night oil and read all those text books which you had studied for 3 or 4 years?
If you think so then you are wasting your time.
Then what should you prepare?
During your course of study you should have had a few subjects which were quite close to your heart - yes the subjects which were favorite to you. These are the subjects in which you should prepare yourself before an interview.
This is easily said than done - so how do you prepare yourself on these subjects?
Brush through the FUNDAS of the subject, the fundamentals are a must for your favorite subject. If some one wakes you up in the middle of the night and asks you a question on your favorite subject, you should be in a position to give the answer. Remember this is for the fundamentals only. Then try to get information on the latest developments happening around the globe on your subject of interest.
Next important preparation is you shoud collect information about the organization, today we are in a world of information overload so browse the web to collect the information.
What information has to be collected?
Get the details of the organization - its nature of business - its diversification - the mission or vision statement of the organization - the turnover in mln Rs of the organization - Its recent achievements and awards - see the annual report of the organization - See the FAQ in the home page of the organization - In TOTO show them the interest you had showed in knowing more about the organization. (This gives you an edge over the other applicants)
What other preparations should be done on the day before the interview?
See weather you have comfortable dress to wear the next day - Yes dont ever go in for new clothes if you have not tried it before. In most cases it might turn out to be uncomfortable!!
Press your clothes, polish your boots and prepare yourself to present neatly in front of the interviewers.
What kind of dress should you select?
For the Gentlemen:
Preferably go in for a light coloured shirt and a dark trousers.
I would not suggest black and white - Hotel industry has that as their uniform.
A pin striped shirt with a neatly pressed trousers would be fine.
Wear your shoes be comfortable with them, let them be polished.
Wear a Tie which would get along with your dress.
Sport a mild deodorant.
Clean shaven and neatly combed hair.
For the ladies:
Go in with mild coloured clothes which suits you - you are a better decision maker on this.
Avoid jewellery - Keep it simple.
Let the clothes which you choose be non revealing - else you send in differnt signals to the interviewers
Im not trying to teach you how to dress but dress well to win.
The next aspect is what are you going to carry with you to the interview hall or venue?
Get a felt covered folder rather than a plastic one with many pouches inside.
Arrange your certificates in a chronological order and you should know where you have a particular credential - Don't ever fumble with your folder in front of the interviewers to show your credentials. This shows your weakness (?)
Now most of you (if its the first interview) will be tensed and sweat a lot on your palm - to cover this up use your felt covered folder rather than your hand kerchief.
I think these are the only preparation you should do the day before the interview.
But remember the following points:
Have a very good sound sleep.
Relax your self dont be tensed.
If you are suiting the Job profile of the organization then be assured you will be selected.
Be confident on what ever you say and do.
We will see on WHAT DO THEY (Interviewers) EXPECT in the next post of mine
